Minister of Roads and Highways, Governs Kwame Agbodza, has called the “Big Push” road project in Afienya the most audacious and ambitious investment in Ghana’s road sector, emphasizing that it goes “beyond politics” and will revolutionize the nation’s infrastructure.
Speaking at the sod-cutting ceremony for the Greater Accra Region on Tuesday, September 16, Mr. Agbodza stated that President John Dramani Mahama has demonstrated uncommon political will by committing to the initiative, despite the Ministry of Roads and Highways owing contractors over GH¢40 billion.
“Despite all that, Mr. President, you made a bold commitment to institute an intervention that will go down in history as the president who gave the biggest dose of intervention at a single time on our roads. The Big Push is not a campaign promise; it is a bold intervention by your government,” he admonished.
He promised the Ga-Dangbe and Greater Accra communities that the project would be finished in 24 months, calling it a bold solution to Ghana’s infrastructure problems and one that would produce benefits that everyone could witness.
Mr. Agbodza reaffirmed that the project is the single largest investment in Ghana’s roads and that it will be continuously monitored to ensure timely delivery, with GH¢13.85 billion (US\$892.9 million) already allocated.
