Following the terrible news of the death of Dr John Ampotuah Kumah, the deputy finance minister and MP for Ejisu, MP, Alban Bagbin, the speaker of parliament, has paused the proceedings.
The house was in session when the news arrived, bringing a gloomy atmosphere to the room.
Parliament has been greatly impacted by the abrupt death of the deputy finance minister; Mrs Abena Osei-Asare, the deputy finance minister and MP for Atiwa East, sobbed excessively when she learned of the news.
Dr. John Kumah travelled to Germany for medical care after struggling with an unidentified ailment for long time.
He went back to Ghana in spite of his health issues to make sure that important tax measures in the 2024 budget were approved after the minority threatened to reject them.
His death at the age of 45 leaves a huge hole.
Dr. Kumah graduated from the University of Ghana in 2011 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics and Philosophy, a Bachelor of Art degree (Law) LLB, and a Professional Law Certificate from the Ghana School of Law in 2013. 2013 saw his admission to the Ghana Bar.
The Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA) awarded him an Executive Masters degree in Business Administration (Finance) in 2009.
He continued on to earn a Doctorate in Business Innovation from the same Business School in November 2020, after earning a Masters in Applied Business Research from the Swiss Business School in Switzerland in 2019.
Mr. Kumah was the founder member and managing partner of Aduaprokye Chambers, a law firm, before entering the public service.
In addition, he was the creator of Majak Associates Ltd., a construction and building firm.
Under the Presidential Business Support Programme, he served as the inaugural Chief Executive Officer of the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP), which taught 7,000 businesses in 2018.
In just two days, Dr. Kumah gave GH¢120,000 to restore the rainstorm-damaged boys’ dormitories at Ejisu Senior High Technical School.
He was an entrepreneur, a lawyer, a politician, and a preacher, among other things.
The lawmaker’s spouse and six kids will succeed him.
