Akwatia By-Election: NDC’s Azorka set to face court.

The Eastern South Regional Police Command has confirmed the arrest of Alhaji Sofo Azorka, a National Vice Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), and he is set to face court. This arrest was a result of the alleged assault on Alhaji Masawudu Osman, the third National Vice Chairman of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), during the Akwatia by-election on September 2, 2025.

Alhaji Azorka was arrested in Tamale during the police’s investigation into the alleged assault.

According to a press release issued by the police, he was granted bail after a caution statement was taken and has been ordered to report to the Eastern South Regional Police Command in Kyebi on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, at 10 a.m., where he will be formally arraigned before the court.

 The police further ensured a general public in-depth investigation into the situation.

“The police assures the public of a thorough investigation into the matter, hence entreats all to remain calm, as further development shall be communicated,” it stated
