Ghana’s AG slams Court of Appeal’s acquittal of two businessmen in alleged corruption trial

Attorney General Godfred Yeboah Dame has criticized the Court of Appeal’s recent 2-1 ruling to acquit and discharge Dr. Ato Forson and Richard Jakpa, calling it “grossly unfair to the nation” and detrimental to efforts against impunity and abuse in public office.

In a statement released Tuesday, July 30, Dame described the court’s decision as “erroneous.” He emphasized that the Office of the Attorney General views the ruling as a setback in the fight against corruption and misconduct within public institutions.

“The decision of the Court of Appeal is deemed grossly unfair and undermines the broader efforts to combat impunity and safeguard public office integrity,” the statement read.

The Attorney General’s office has announced plans to appeal the decision to the Supreme Court, aiming to overturn what they consider a significant legal misjudgment.
