Ghana’s premier medical facility, the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, has gone up in flames.
Fire engulfed the Hospital’s Intensive Care Unit (ICU) on Monday, November 30, 2020.
The hospital management said the inferno was caused by faulty electrical cables.
Some three coronavirus patients who were on treatment at the unit have been transferred to the University of Ghana Medical Centre for treatment, the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital’s management said.
Public Relations Officer of KBTH, Mustapha Salifu, has announced that no casualties were recorded during the fire outbreak.
“The fire was detected early, so we were able to handle it as soon it started,” according to him.
“COVID-19 patients are safe and under control. There were also no casualties involved as a result of the outbreak,” he noted.
The fire outbreak at the Hospital brings to four, the total number of fire outbreaks in Accra for the month of November.
On November 18, the Odawna market was gutted by fire, destroying over 400 shops.
Again on November 19, there was a fire outbreak at the Sakumono School Complex.
On Saturday, November 28, 2020, the Ghana Commercial Bank branch at Kantamanso in Accra also recorded a fire outbreak.
