Content creator CW Abeniade has called for increased funding and visibility for climate-focused influencers, saying stronger support is needed to amplify solution-driven climate storytelling across Africa.
Speaking during an interview at the TN Africa Digital Journalism Summit in Kenya, Abeniade said creators working in sustainable fashion and climate communication require partnerships, institutional backing, and funding to scale their impact.
“We need influencers who are specific to climate change to hammer more on the conversation and lead us right,” she said. “You need proper NGOs. You need people to come on board to support sustainable fashion, support climate change, and support each niche everyone is working in.”
She emphasized that financial support would enable creators to produce more impactful climate content and reach wider audiences. “In every region you find yourself, you need funding because money makes the conversation stronger and helps amplify the message,” she noted.
Abeniade also highlighted the importance of using digital platforms to reach local communities, including indigenous groups, with climate education and adaptation information.
“The world is moving digital. If you say something today, before you know it, leaders see it. So we should do more of the media and use digital platforms to push climate awareness,” she said.
The TN Africa Digital Journalism Summit convened journalists, digital creators, academics, and climate advocates to explore how storytelling can accelerate climate action and promote African-led solutions. Participants discussed the role of media, influencers, and community storytellers in shaping climate narratives and driving engagement.
Abeniade expressed optimism about the impact of the gathering, noting that cross-sector collaboration between creators, media, and climate organizations could strengthen Africa’s climate communication ecosystem.
“I feel like positivity is going to come out of this summit. The organizers want to be heard more and want to make the change,” she said.
