AfroFuture debunks firearm rumours

Organisers of the AfroFuture Festival have dismissed circulating online claims alleging that a firearm was discharged during the event, describing the reports as false and misleading.

In a statement issued to clarify the situation, AfroFuture confirmed that no firearm was discharged at any point during the festival, and that there was no security incident or disruption related to gunfire on festival grounds.

“We want to state clearly and unequivocally that this incident did not occur at AfroFuture, and there was no security action or disruption related to the discharge of a firearm on festival grounds at any time,” the organisers said.

The clarification follows a wave of social media posts that sparked concern among attendees and the wider public after the close of the festival. AfroFuture noted that while misinformation can spread rapidly online, it is committed to transparency and public reassurance.

According to organisers, the festival was executed under comprehensive safety and security protocols, including professional security personnel, coordinated emergency response plans, and close collaboration with local authorities.

“The safety and well-being of our guests, artists, staff, and families is our highest priority, and we take that responsibility extremely seriously,” the statement added. “We are proud of the professionalism of our operations team and grateful to everyone who helped ensure another successful and secure AfroFuture Festival.”

AfroFuture further disclosed that it has formally communicated with the Ghana Police Service to confirm that the alleged incident did not take place at the event, reinforcing its commitment to accuracy and accountability.

Organisers also reassured the public that AfroFuture remains a safe, family-friendly cultural festival, rooted in celebration, creativity, and African excellence.

“We want to reassure our community that AfroFuture remains a safe, family-friendly environment grounded in culture, joy, and shared experience,” the statement noted.
